CBOM Specialties
Craniomandibular orthodontics
This treatment modality correct misaligned teeth and a poorly positioned mandible to improve function and aesthetics. It includes adjustments to the position of the teeth and the positioning of the mandible thru the TMJs.
Treatments: This includes the use of fixed orthodontic appliances or invisible aligners in specific cases, and devices to correct occlusion.
Children’s treatment: We encourage families to have their children’s occlusion checked from the age of three. Children can begin interceptive treatment to correct occlusion problems and redirect craniomandibular growth. The focus is on decompressing the joints and provide a balanced growth direction.
Treatment of permanent dentition: Craniomandibular orthodontics studies the relationship between the mandible and the skull, focusing on disorders that affect the function and aesthetics of the face. It addresses problems such as malocclusion, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, and muscles imbalances. Treatment may include orthodontic appliances, functional therapies and surgical interventions, seeking harmony between the facial structure and masticatory function.
Temporomandibular joint dysfunction
As defined by Rudolf Slavicek, it is a comprehensive term that refers to a set of functional disorders affecting the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), masticatory muscles and associated structures. Slavicek highlights that these disorders may involve:
- Functional Changes: Difficulties in mandible movement, such as limited opening, joint noises (clicking), and pain.
- Muscular Aspects: Tension, pain, and fatigue in the masticatory muscles, which may result from bruxism or stress.
- Postural Interactions: The relationship between body posture and mandibular function, where posture issues can contribute to TMJ dysfunction.
- Psychological Factors: The influence of stress and emotional factors that can worsen pain and dysfunction.
- Multidisciplinary Approach: Rudolf Slavicek emphasizes the importance of an integrated approach that may include dentists, physiotherapists, psychologists, and medical professionals in diagnosing and treating TMDs.
Restorative Dentistry
Repairs and restores damaged or decayed teeth to restore function and aesthetics.
Treatments: Includes fillings, inlays and onlays (constructed in a laboratory), as well as aesthetic treatments to improve the appearance of the teeth.
Aims to improve the appearance of teeth, using techniques such as teeth whitening, porcelain veneers and dental contouring.
Prioritizes techniques that preserve healthy dental structure, using materials and procedures that reduce the need for more aggressive interventions.
Involves the recovery of damaged or decayed teeth using materials such as composite resins and prosthetic materials with laboratory involvement in cases of larger reconstructions.
Prevention
Preventive oral hygiene is essential to maintain healthy teeth and gums.
Regular check-ups, at least once every six months, for cleaning and evaluation are important to identify signs of oral problems (occlusion in function) as soon as they appear.
The equipment we have and the high-quality materials we use for cleaning procedures, in addition to the quality of the service, are highly praised by our patients.

Dra. Jade Moreira Patrão
General Clinic with emphasis on Dentistry, Prevention and Orofacial Harmonization
Graduated in 2017 from Universidade Paulista (UNIP), in Campinas-SP, she moved to Portugal with the goal of completing her clinical residency in Implantology at the Instituto Português do Atlântico Sul. After completing her residency, she decided to validate her diploma through the Integrated Masters’ Degree in Dental Medicine, successfully completing this process.
In addition to her professional career, she has a series of hobbies and curiosities that make her unique. Despite her calm appearance, many people think that she prefers to listen to calm music, but in fact, what really wins her over is the heavy sound of metal. Slipknot, Falling In Reverse and Architects are her choices to start the day with energy, even at 7 am! Still, she also loves the classic style of radio Antena 1. Passionate about music, she was once a bass player and when she is not immersed in the world of dentistry, she divides her time between war documentaries, suspense and criminal cases on YouTube but, like a good Pisces person, she also confesses her weakness for tear-jerking teenage romances. A voracious reader, she has already devoured books by Nicholas Sparks and the entire Percy Jackson series, but nowadays she finds herself immersed in dental books, falling asleep and waking up thinking about teeth.
She currently works in the areas of Dentistry, Orofacial Harmonization and Prevention, always offering the most advanced services to her patients, based on science, cutting-edge technology and personalized care. Passionate about what she does, she is constantly updating herself to ensure excellent treatments. In addition, she frequently dedicates herself to volunteer work, reinforcing her commitment to dentistry and social well-being.

Risk Management and Biosecurity
For the CBOM’s team, risk management is a non-negotiable priority and biosecurity is one of the topics. We continually invest in state-of-the-art equipment and rigorous practices to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our patients and staff. These precautions are essential to prevent infections, protect everyone’s health and ensure that each procedure is performed with maximum safety. We believe that quality care begins with a solid commitment to biosecurity.
Special care is given to instruments used in consultations, with them being kept in a closed container with the application of a specific disinfectant product, until they are transported in a safe manner and at a safe time to the sterilization center.
- Appropriate treatment of non-disposable instruments after use.
- Washing and drying of instruments performed by a thermal washer
- Sealing of high-quality instrument packages, ensuring total sterility of their contents.
- Autoclaving with efficiency controlled by means of chemical and biological indicators.
- Care in treatment rooms with disinfection of surfaces and equipment between appointments.
We prioritize the quality of all products used in sterilization and disinfection processes.
The use of disposable items during healthcare is also essential for several reasons:
Patient safety
Disposable items such as gloves, syringes and needles reduce the risk of cross-contamination. They are designed to be used only once, ensuring that there is no transfer of pathogens between patients.
Compliance with Health Standards
Many public health regulations and guidelines require the use of disposable items to ensure the safety and effectiveness of health care.
Unfeasible sterilization
Not all materials can be reused. Some items are complex in design or material, making effective sterilization difficult or even impossible.
Infection control
The use of disposables is an important strategy in infection control in healthcare settings, especially in outbreak or pandemic situations.
Spit bowls and dental biosecurity
Removing spit bowls from dental offices is a measure that improves biosecurity, reducing the generation of aerosols and the risk of cross-contamination. This change also makes it easier to clean and disinfect the environment, making the office safer for patients and professionals. Despite this, it is essential to maintain other infection control practices, such as the use of physical barriers and personal protective equipment, to ensure complete safety during consultations.
Alternatively, the use of suction devices and vacuum pumps has proven to be highly effective in controlling saliva and other fluids during procedures. This technology significantly reduces the formation of aerosols, helping to prevent infections. In addition, suction devices can provide greater comfort for patients, making care more efficient and safer in all aspects.
